Vineland Bee & Wasp Control
Serving Cape May, Atlantic & Cumberland Counties
When bees or wasps are able to construct a hive or nest on your property, they can quickly become a serious nuisance. South Jersey’s warm spring and summer temperatures allow colonies to grow fast, making what started as a small handful of bugs quickly spread into dozens or even hundreds. Removing a nest can be risky, and these insects can be particularly intimidating with their propensity for painful stinging that can trigger serious reactions in those who are allergic. If you want to take back control over your yard and remove the threat of stinging pests, reach out to Superior Pest Solutions for experienced assistance.

The Difference Between Bees & Wasps
Some people easily mistake bees and wasps, while others might use these terms to describe these bugs interchangeably. It’s important to know the differences between them because, while they both sting, they are extremely different when it comes to behavioral characteristics and how to handle an infestation.
Identifying Bees
Bees are typically identifiable by their furry appearance. They are usually a shorter and chubbier shape than wasps, and their midsection usually has some sort of fur or hair. This is what makes them such exceptional pollinators and why they are such a key part of our natural ecosystem. They are usually fairly easy to identify by their signature black-and-yellow coloration, though the shades of yellow and the amount of each color can change from species to species.

Identifying Wasps
Wasps are typically much longer than bees and lack the signature fluffy fur on their midsection. Their abdomen (behind section) is typically much larger than a bee’s, and is often connected to the rest of their body by an extremely skinny waist. Unlike bees, which typically don’t get any larger than about one-half to three-quarters of an inch, adult wasps can grow to an inch or longer, depending on their species.
Yellow jackets and paper wasps are what most people think of when you mention wasps. The most common sign of wasps is a wasp nest, specifically a paper wasp nest, which looks as though it is built from paper. They can be ball-shaped, but in their early phases, they have a distinct honeycomb structure and are usually found in sheltered areas such as under the eaves or fascia of your roof, in between fence boards, or on outdoor furniture that is seldom used. These wasps are known for being aggressive and generally are unafraid to sting at will (unlike bees, they can do so repeatedly).
Mud dauber nests are completely different, being constructed from mud. These are easily noticeable on outdoor walls or features as large globs of mud buildup. When the larvae hatch and mature, they dig their way out of this nest, leaving a round hole that exposes a tube-like shape inside.
